Sucker Punch!

Posted by Derek Shiu on Friday, July 30, 2010,
For those of you who aren't in the know, Comic-Con was held last week in SD and it unveiled a couple of pretty spectacular movie trailers.  Here is one of them, Sucker Punch;  my previous mentor at AM Nicole Herr had a hand in it doing CG stuff I'm guessing. Either way... it's totally awesome!

I didn't realize it has been over a week since my last post... haha oops. Time is flying by right now, but it's a good thing; getting lots done at work and school is making me crazy again.  But let's see... what has been going on recently...

We won our second softball game on Monday! hahahaha that sounds bad. So now we're 2-3 :) OH and I caught everything hit to me this time, which is saying a lot since our first game I misread two fly balls and totally missed them.  Also got sort of lucky; I ...

I've got a special treat today, it's not an animation short or anything like that, but it is related to CG.
There isn't really much to say about this video other than "OOOOOOOOOOOH WOOOOOW! THAT LOOKS SO COOL!"
enjoy :) (I know I did... although I don't know how many of you are impressed by this kind of stuff :p)

Hey, sorry it's been a while since I've last put something up. It has been CRAZY busy for me the last week or so.  Between trying to keep on pace for work schedules, homework, and some much needed exercise :p, I haven't had a chance to find some good animation to share.

This Friday my work is having a "friendly" flag football match at the company picnic. I use quotes because apparently the other team has won 9 years in a row. Yes, NINE. So I guess this year, they've started having practices a...

Short Mayhem (part 4)

Posted by Derek Shiu on Monday, July 5, 2010,
Hope everyone enjoyed their holiday and for those lucky enough to have today off, hope you're enjoying that as well :)

This is the past part of my 4 part short clip marathon, hope you enjoyed some of my favorite clips! This last one is one of my top favorites, it is seriously a marvelous piece of animation.  The set and character design are amazing. and the animation itself is totally on the ball (it's so SQUISHY!)

Short Mayhem (part 2)

There's something about this next one that makes it stand out above some of the others.. what was it again... I can't seem to remember exactly..

Oh hold on, I remember now. IT WAS DONE BY ONE PERSON. One single person; not a team of professionals! He did everything, story, character design, modeling, rigging, effects, animation, texturing, materials, music, you name it.

Leaves me bewildered. I think it took him a grand total of 6 years.

Short Mayhem (part 1)

We held a little animation short viewing yesterday at work and it reminded me of a couple shorts that are my personal favorites.  I have a lineup of 4 shorts, so here is the first :) look tomorrow for the next one!

In spot #4!
Beautiful design, amazing animation (albeit a little creepy) and a great short story.. what more could I ask for?
